File Transfer Protocol (FTP), is the most popular method for transferring website content to a web hosting account. With an FTP client that is pre-installed on your desktop or laptop PC, you can set up a connection to your website hosting server and copy all of the website files that you need with a few mouse clicks. You can do this using an intuitive GUI and it is as easy as dragging & dropping the aforementioned files. The advantage of using File Transfer Protocol is the fact that you can create several FTP accounts, each one with a different level of access to your online storage space, so if you want to provide somebody with access, for example – a web designer, they’ll be able to access only one specific folder and will not be able to view the remaining content or any other info, such as private details. Three things are mandatory to be able to make an FTP connection – a hostname, which is usually a domain name or an IP address, a user name and a password.
FTP Accounts in Shared Hosting
Setting up and managing multiple FTP accounts will be quite easy with any of our Linux shared hosting. This service isn’t restricted, so using our easy-to-work-with Hepsia hosting Control Panel, you will be able to set up as many accounts as you have to, in order to manage your websites and to get your website-related tasks accomplished. In case you hire a designer and they’re done with the website, for instance, you can change the FTP password or delete the whole FTP account with just one single mouse click through the Control Panel. For the sake of convenience, you will be able to check a list of all the FTP accounts that you’ve created and what directories they can access. Useful functions such as changing the path or the password and downloading an auto-config file for famous FTP software apps are also only a click away.
FTP Accounts in Semi-dedicated Hosting
If you host your websites in a semi-dedicated server account, you will be able to set up a different FTP account for each of them, since we haven’t restricted this feature with any of our semi-dedicated server plans. You can do this through the FTP section of our simple-to-navigate Hepsia Control Panel where you can also view the complete list of all the accounts that you’ve created, along with the folder that each one of them can connect to. If necessary, you will be able to edit the password for a particular FTP account or to modify its access path with a couple of mouse clicks. You can also delete an account without efforts if you do not require it any longer – for example, if you’ve hired a web designer who’s finished with the site and you don’t want them to be able to connect to your website files anymore. For the sake of convenience, we have prepared different video tutorials, which will help you administer your FTP accounts without any effort if you have never used a website hosting package before.
FTP Accounts in VPS
None of the Linux VPS offered by us has a limit on the maximum number of FTP accounts that you can manage at any given time, so you can set up a separate account for any site hosted on your virtual machine, regardless of whether it’s under a domain or subdomain. In addition, it doesn’t matter which hosting Control Panel you’ll pick when you register – Hepsia, DirectAdmin or cPanel, since an FTP server will be set up on your VPS at the time of the installation of any of them. In case you want different people to be able to set up a connection to the same directory using their own set of log-in credentials, for instance, it’ll take several clicks to create a separate FTP account for each of them. Removing an active account or changing the folder that it can connect to is just as easy and you will not need to deal with any predicaments, even if you do not have any past experience in such matters.
